Are you a PhD, Post Doctoral or Staff Researcher with an interest in how to translate your work in healthcare or life sciences research into a commercial opportunity?

This series of free workshops, run and delivered in partnership with Opportunity North East and BioCity Group is suitable for anyone wishing to learn more about commercialisation and best practice tools and techniques to explore their own life science start-up.

It is suited to those who have a spark of an idea or those who would like to understand how to work with industry to develop fundamental research to a commercial outcome. Whether you’re a post doctoral researcher at the University of Aberdeen or Robert Gordon University, working within the NHS or a life science start-up looking into commercialisation.

Each session will focus on one of the following topics:

Introduction to Lean Start-up – introduction to the processes and methodologies of ‘lean start-up’ to help you analyse the commercial viability of your idea

Business Model Innovation – how to use the Business Model Canvas to facilitate and innovate your business model design

Telling the Story – how to communicate your business proposition in a compelling fashion to investors and stakeholders

The workshops will begin with a light lunch, giving you an opportunity to network. By signing up for this workshop you are registering for the series held over three dates. If you are unable to attend any of the above listed dates, please email [email protected]

Life sciences is a priority growth sector for North East Scotland with proven strengths in biologics, health data science, drug discovery and medtech. ONE Life Sciences, the sector board of private sector economic development body Opportunity North East (ONE), is leading delivery of an ambitious investment programme to double the number of companies in the region through the development of the £40m Bio-therapeutics Hub for Innovation project in Aberdeen, which will open in 2021. The Bio Hub, led by ONE, is backed with £20m of capital funding from the UK Government and Scottish Government through the Aberdeen City Region Deal, a partnership between Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council and ONE. ONE has committed £3.6m of its own funding over seven years to the project to deliver bespoke commercialisation and growth support to spin-outs, start-ups and established companies in the sector. ONE works with companies and partners, including the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University and NHS Grampian, to create links between academics, clinicians and industry to build the life sciences cluster and its ambition.
